❄️ Cooling & Heat Pumps

Ductless Mini-Splits

Where ductless heat pumps work well, where multiple heads complicate comfort and what installation quality means.

Safety boundary: Wall penetrations, refrigerant lines, condensate routing and electrical connections require proper installation.

Good applications

Ductless systems can suit additions, open areas, homes without ducts and targeted zones. They can provide both heating and cooling.

One head is not whole-home distribution

Airflow between closed rooms is limited. Bedrooms and separated spaces may need their own heads or another distribution strategy.

Installation details

Outdoor-unit location, snow clearance, line-set protection, condensate drainage and service access affect reliability and appearance.

Operation habits

Steady setpoints often work better than frequent large setbacks. Keep filters clean and allow the unit to manage fan speed unless the manufacturer recommends otherwise.

Useful questions to record
  • Is airflow weak, warm, intermittent or normal?
  • Is the outdoor unit operating?
  • Is there ice or water around the indoor equipment?
