Sensible and latent load
Cooling equipment removes both heat and moisture. Windows, sun, occupants, appliances, air leakage and ventilation all contribute.
Oversizing
A large unit can lower temperature quickly and stop before enough moisture is removed. That can leave a cool but clammy home.
Air distribution
Return-air paths, duct leakage, closed doors and room exposure affect comfort. Balancing may be needed after equipment changes.
Measure before replacing
Record indoor humidity and temperature over several days. Ask for a cooling-load calculation and an explanation of selected airflow and stages.
Useful questions to record
- Is airflow weak, warm, intermittent or normal?
- Is the outdoor unit operating?
- Is there ice or water around the indoor equipment?
