What zoning actually requires
A designed zoning system coordinates thermostats, motorized dampers and equipment capacity. It must maintain safe airflow when only one small zone calls.
Closed registers are not zoning
Closing many registers can increase duct pressure and reduce airflow across the furnace or cooling coil. That can create noise, overheating or freezing.
Start with measurement
Record room temperatures, register airflow and the time of day. Check for blocked returns, disconnected ducts and building-envelope issues before purchasing controls.

- What changed immediately before the problem?
- Does the issue affect airflow, heat production or both?
- Is there an error code, odour, leak or repeated shutdown?
