Safety boundary: Do not use ozone-generating devices in occupied homes, and do not assume a furnace filter removes gases such as carbon monoxide.
Start with sources
Moisture, smoke, combustion, renovation dust, cleaning products and outdoor pollution require different responses. Filtration is only one tool.
Particle filtration
A well-fitted filter can reduce airborne particles that pass through the system. Performance depends on airflow, runtime and the filter cabinet.
Ventilation
Exhaust fans and balanced ventilation can remove moisture and pollutants, but systems must be operated and maintained correctly.
Humidity
Both excessive dryness and high humidity can cause comfort or building problems. Measure before adding humidification or dehumidification.
Useful questions to record
- Can everyone leave safely now?
- Which emergency service or utility should be called from outside?
- What information can be recorded without re-entering?
