Make the scope comparable
Ask each bidder to address sizing, removal, equipment, controls, duct or piping changes, venting, drains, electrical work, permits, commissioning and cleanup.
Separate equipment from installation
A premium model cannot compensate for poor sizing or installation. Ask who performs the work and who starts and tests the system.
Read exclusions
Wall repair, asbestos, fuel tanks, chimney work, panel upgrades, condensate pumps and thermostat wiring may be excluded.
Document the decision
Keep the final proposal, change orders, model and serial numbers, permit records, startup readings and warranty registration.
